Africa is large and diverse. At the launch of the Global Campaign, little was known of the burden of headache anywhere. Population-based studies are needed in at least one each of the countries in East, West and Southern sub-Saharan Africa.

Population-based studies have been completed in Zambia and Ethiopia and are being considered in Nigeria and Uganda.

Studies are also needed to understand how headache services might be structured, organised and delivered in these sub-regions. There are special challenges in the mostly poorly-resourced areas.
