Since education is the central pillar of Lifting The Burden, and is a prerequisite for making aware, a number of working groups will propose and develop global educational strategies aimed at various levels.
The first, the Working Group for Specialist Education, has responsibility for advanced training. This is offered as a Masters Degree course, currently at University La Sapienza in Rome. It is hoped to roll this out in an expansion programme to other major universities in Europe and elsewhere.
This course has priority because the education it provides will train the trainers from around the world. However, other modes of advanced training will be explored, not forgetting that the internet is able to reach doctors in most countries of the world at relatively low cost.
The Working Group for Primary-Care Education and the Working Group for Community Education will co-operate with NGOs active in these fields, particularly the International Headache Society and World Headache Alliance, and build upon their existing programmes.
Neither group has yet established its objectives or planned any programmes. In both cases, e-learning via the internet is a likely way forward.
