Most people working for Lifting The Burden give their time free. They do so as part of their academic commitment. They may benefit from association, from collaborative publications and, indirectly but importantly, from Lifting The Burden's achievements towards shared aims that they value.

The very few paid staff that Lifting The Burden must have in order to operate can, for several years, be covered from the Millennium Fund. This sum of money is in the ownership of World Headache Alliance. It was raised specifically to support Lifting The Burden by Headache World 2000, an international congress held in London in September 2000 as a combined initiative of the British Association for the Study of Headache, the Migraine Trust, World Headache Alliance, International Headache Society and European Headache Federation.

Money given to Lifting The Burden therefore goes, almost entirely, to the direct support of activities and not to management costs. Even so, the activities of Lifting The Burden can consume substantial resources.

Pharmaceutical companies who share and wish to support any of the objectives of Lifting The Burden are welcomed as partners in the Campaign. They have been the principal supporters so far. The industry cannot, however, be expected to cover all of the long-term costs.

Lifting The Burden seeks to create new income sources. There are two good reasons why the non-pharmaceutical industrial sector may support Lifting The Burden in strategic alliances. The first is that employers bear most of the cost of headache, and would wish to be relieved of this burden falling upon them. The second is their corporate social responsibility, which can be engaged as awareness is raised of the social damage wrought by headache.

Individual donations from people who wish the Campaign well, and support its aims, are hugely important. Half of all adults in the world are directly affected by headache, and an estimated one in seven would benefit from health care (that the majority do not receive). The possible number of individual donors is very high, and the income from them could help Lifting The Burden achieve every one of its objectives - but only if people actually donate.

Following one of the links below will tell you how. It will not commit you until you confirm that you wish to do so.
